First I would like to give my Thanks to Rowan Tours for another splendid tour, the hotel and courses where great the company was fantastic as always and going by Monarch Airways was far better than Easyjet as there seemed to be more leg room and, also a BIG Thank you to Peter Tweddell for sorting out the cards and order of play everyday as well as keeping the website up to date.
Day One - Laguna
We all arrived at Gatwick on time and once through check in and passport control we settled down for breakfast, this time there was no issues with us all catching the flight. Once at Faro we had what seemed a 3 mile trek in hot weather to the mini buses, once we had reached the hotel we left our bags and set off for the 1st day's golf at Laguna, the course was in excellent condition and just as I remembered for last year, the worthy winner was Dave Catchpole on 32 points with Dave Verga coming 2nd on count back with 28 points which meant he was cut 1 shot, the lost ball count for the day was 60 this was due to the amount of water on the course.
Day Two - Rest Day
This was the first time we have had a rest day on tour so some people went to the beach which was only 10 minute away others had a lie in and some went for a walk, Simon Muir went for a longer walk than mosat and ended up having to get a bus back however we all seemed to meet up later at the hotel bar.
Day Three - The Old Course
This course is absolutely fantastic with very lush fairways excellent greens and well tree lined which was a change from day one which was quite open so a lot of thinking was going what shots to play which resulted in the scores being a little higher than day 1, Simon's walk the day before must have inspired him as he won the day on count back from Ian Rowan both on 36 points.
Day Four - Millenium
Again this was a course we had played lasy year and was again in great condition, the weather remained hot however with the breeze this kepted us cool and with the ice boxes on the back we were able to kept the drinks cold, again Simon Muir won on count back from Kevin Warncken on 37 points.
Day Five - Vila Sol
This was a new course for us and it did not disappoint, we had an early start as we had to pack and move all our luggage to a room behind reception before setting off to the course, this course was like to Old Course very tree lined and it also had water which meant your tee shots had to be accurate and sometimes long with a couple of greens protected by water so you had to keep an eye on maps to make sure you didn't lose your ball which reflected in the scores with Peter Tweddell winning on 31 points.
This was a sad year for the tour as we had to say Good Bye to Dave Catchpole who was off to Australia to start a new life which we all wish him well, he has been a great ambassador for MAGS and will be greatly missed however we hope to see him on next years tour.
With regard to next years tour, Ian has already put an email out to everybody so if you want to go please get your name down early and if you have any suggestions on where to go or people to speak to please let Ian know ASAP, at this time we just need to get an idea on how many want to go so we can get a better deal however flight s might have to be paid for early so be prepared.
