Captain's Match Report
Sitting, drinking coffee and watching the rain come down on Saturday morning, I can’t help but reflect on the doom and gloom of the forecast for yesterday!
Having shifted my Captain’s Day from the Weald, where we had unbelievably hot weather, it looked as though we would be playing in waders and using paddles for clubs!! However, how wrong can you be!
Whilst enjoying bacon rolls, teas and coffees, I presented the Autumn Shield to Karen Gentle along with her Division 3 winners mug for The Weald of Kent. Presentation over, time for the details of play for the day. Added to normal proceedings were 3 extra competitions, namely Pink (Novelty) Ball competition, a Putting Competition and a Secret Pairs prize.
My playing partners for the day were Candice Hanson, Dave Verga and Steve Farley, excellent company.
First tee at 10.00am with yours truly in charge of the Novelty Ball, the only good thing I can say about the first hole is I didn’t lose it. With some excellent guidance from Dave Verga and a little luck in finding the ball we managed to bring it home. Well done to those other groups who did likewise.
A special mention to Candice for her nearest the pin on the 8th, it has to be the shot of the day, we all agreed it would not be beaten.
Hardly a spot of rain, the sun shining and playing in short sleeved tops and the course in remarkably good condition considering the deluge in the days before hand.
Golf over, time for a refreshing drink with my playing partners, followed by dinner. As is normal, it was time for the scores to be checked by Pete, myself and Darren. Most went smoothly until it was realised that Paul Keenor had gone home with the key fob! Fortunately, the score cards were all intact and correct, to the relief of Paul Damper!
Well done to all winners and to Sean Downs with 41 points, the winner of The Captain’s Trophy.
To finish off my report, I would sincerely like to thank the committee for their support in helping to make the day go so well, but most importantly to all of you who turned out on what could have been such a soggy day, your support meant everything. I look forward to welcoming you all to Redlibetts on 10th November.
