Nizels Golf Club 01732 833833

As I awoke early Friday morning there was some concern as to what sort of day, weather wise, to expect. The forecast had been doom and gloom with torrential rain forecast and possible thunderstorms. I was personally looking forward to the course having won previously a couple of years ago, although that doesn’t necessarily count for anything. The journey to Nizels was dry but overcast. Nizels was established in 1992 on an estate that dates back as far as 1397 and the scenic views over the rolling hills and lakes make it a perfect location for a golf course. Pity it was spoiled by the condition of the course, which for the second time in three years fell way below the standard expected. Some of you were quite verbal in your comments and they have been noted. Please bear in mind Tim books the courses the best part of a year in advance to get the best possible rates and assumes that the course will be as suggested on the tin!! However words will be said to the course management.
What a good turnout, 40 players made up of 36 members and 4 guests all anticipating a great day’s golf. Over breakfast we launched the new breathable polo shirts which were well received and a good few orders taken. As we started our round the mizzle and light rain was steady but at no time bad enough for waterproofs to be donned. The day dried out and became very sultry and sunny. Thanks to my playing partners on the day, Brian Goodhew, Darren (Mulligan) Parker and Peter Tweddell. Quite a battle all the way round between Darren and Peter. Unfortunately, one of my playing partners, teed off completely in the wrong direction on a par 3 and I stupidly followed, promptly launching my ball into the water, which the others found hilarious. I suffered throughout the day with vertigo and thank my partners for their understanding and patience. Due to the state of the ground and obstructions it was deemed most sensible to leave the pars and stroke indices as normal on the affected holes (more like par 3’s with the occasional large excavator). This led to some high and interesting scoring, but it was the same for all. Congratulations to all winners, but a special mention to Gary Kisby who will have to go some to beat his round of 49 points!!
