As we all know only too well, the COVID 19 virus is causing us all to think very carefully about how we keep ourselves and others safe in these uncertain times. Even since last Friday things have changed but for those of us who gathered at Faversham on 20 March, we were warmly welcomed by a Golf Club that was very alert and respectful of the playing advice prevailing at that time. Because of this the 16 members and 5 guests who came along were able to enjoy a very good days golf on a course that considering the weather of late was in very good condition.
The day started with an excellent full English breakfast before we set off with the first tee being at 9.00 AM. Out on the course one of the things that the Club had thought of was not to have rakes in any of the bunkers. A small but important example of how the Club had considered safety.
The day itself was overcast and cool with at times a pretty fresh breeze. That made some of the longer par 4’s and the par 5’s more of a challenge than they might have been on a calmer day but as I have said the course was generally in good condition and that was reflected in some very good and consistent scoring, especially from the those in Divisions 1 and 2.
Back at the Club house we enjoyed a good main course of Ham, egg and chips which although a change to what was originally ordered was none the less excellent. When the scores were totted up the winner of Division 2 was Ian Marshallsay with 33 points, Division 1 went to Adrian Harvanko with 32 points and somehow Geoff Mills took Division 3 with 26 points.
And so, another MAGS day has been and gone. Our next event was to be Broome Park on 17 April but given where we are of now that will not be going ahead, and the AGM also is for the time being having to be placed on hold. Therefore, how the rest of the year will unfold is of course anyone’s guess. But rest assured as and when Tim will be sending round emails keeping us all informed of anything relevant. In the meantime, I hope you, your family and loved ones stay safe and well and that it will not be that long before we can get our calendar back on track as that will be a thankful sign that these unprecedented times are coming to an end.
With all best wishes
Geoff Mills
Vice-Captain
