Firstly I'd like to thank the 27 players, 20 of whom also dined, for attending my first offical round as Captain. Hopefully we'll keep these numbers up throuhout the season. Also welcome to new members Dave Elsworth and Brain & Barry England.
The weather couldn't have gone much better for us, hottest day of the year so far I believe. The recent rain and the hot weather had put rough production into overdrive with it being rather deep in places. Maybe I should just stick to keeping my ball on the fairway instead!
In terms of results their was an interesting occurrence that I've never witnessed during my four years of MAGS... We had four different winners of the main prizes. Well done to newcomers Barry England and Dave Elsworth for winning their respective divisions, keep up those high scores and you'll be in with a shout for the overall prize. Well done to Dave Smith too for winning division two with a very tidy consistent round.
The overall prize, The Mick Miller Trophy, went to Dave Catchpole who I'm sure is blooming chuffed after missing out by just one point in last month's event. Watch out Luke Moore you've got a serious contender for your Champions trophy!
During my round with Dave Smith and Dave Taylor, Mr T said "if only we could combine our best holes we'd have a brilliant total score". This got me thinking of a little side competition that I'll hopefully run throuhout the rest of my captaincy as a bit of fun. It may already have a name but I'm going to call it "Group of The Day". So I trudged through the scorecards and took the best score for each hole from each group to give a range of 40 to 48 points. Groups 1 & 4 (see group list above) were tied for the win with 48 points a piece. To determine a winner I calculated the average individual score of each group and Group 1 pipped it by 30.0 to 29.5. So well done to Dave Smith, Dave Taylor and I!
For those of you that are still in the summer matchplay please endeavour to play your games by the next monthly event which is the 20th June at Deangate. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
All the best
Captain Pete
