Now here’s a chance to get those handicaps down... Every year someone wins this match with a very high score and this year as the playing conditions will be excellent the handicap secretary will be rubbing his hands together. Another reason to ensure that you attend this match is the quality of the meal after the game. Brian Goodhew never fails to obtain an excellent meal at the BP Club venue which is just across the main road. It's usually a four course meal in salubrious surroundings and a swim in the indoor pool if you still have some energy.

A bit overcast, but lucky old us, the weather held and after bacon rolls (and the usual friendly pre-match banter), 8 groups set of to play at 9am. I think the first thing that most people noticed was that the course lawn mower seemed to have broken down as the grass on the fairways was decidedly on the long side. The tee boxes were also a little disappointing, being quite uneven, however the greens were not too bad and judging by the all round high scores that came in, most of you, and me being no exception, found it easier than some of the courses we play.
Vice Captain Pete Tweddell had the round of his life scoring a excellent 40 points, just beating Luke Moore on count back, unlucky Luke but well done Pete! Though it ought to be mentioned that he (& I),have now been cut just before the foreign trip, giving Dave Verga even more of a chance to win, (perhaps we didn’t think it through).
Talking of Dave Verga, despite having an excellent attempt at nearest the pin on Hole 17, Peter Self announced in a very manly way that he had managed to get inside him! Best not to dwell on that but well done Peter.
A word of sincere thanks to Ian Rowan who found my St Christopher for me, which I lost on the 10th but only realised on the 12th, cheers mate.
Apologies to all for choosing the hardest par 5 for the nearest the pin in 3 , as no one managed to get on.
Those who managed to get along to the BAE social club for the meal after the golf, many thanks for making the effort, the meal and drinks and continuation of the ribbing and banter is really part of the MAGS day and I would encourage all to attend the meal and presentation if at all possible to get the most out of the day.
The next Venue is Hempstead Forest 19th July , I look forward to seeing you there.
Note for diary... Thursday 25th July has been booked for fun day at Leeds Castle, please try to come along if you can.
