Captain's Match Report

I should like to thank those of you who were able to make the Captains Day golf day especially those of you who attended the evening meal with your partners. Their presence added some much needed glamour to the proceedings, especially when compared to our normal meal attendees.

Thankfully the weather was kind to us as it stayed dry and pleasantly warm during the day. The morning started with a very tasty bacon roll. There were 24 players going out in 6 groups of 4 although for various reasons only 21 finished the course. The first tee time was later than usual as it was Captains Day with the first group setting off around 11:10.

The scoring was good with the overall winner Derek Reed from Division 1 scoring 42 points. The winner of Division 2 was Mike Fairbrass with a score of 40 points and the winner of Division 3 was Steve Tothill with a score of 32 points. The average score for the day was 29 points.

There was a pink ball competition with each group having the onerous task of trying to complete the course without losing the ball, each player taking a turn with the pink ball. Unfortunately I managed to lose our ball in the pond on the 9th hole. The winners with a very impressive score of 38 points were Sean Downs, Paul Damper, Derek Reed and Adrian Harvanko.

In addition there was a putting competition with the player taking the least putts in the round winning a trophy. The winner was Dave Verga with 30 putts although I understand there were some unusual clubs used around the green.

I look forward to seeing everyone next month at Red Libbetts golf course when we are back to the normal format.
