Captain's Match Report
I apologise for the lateness of my report but I’ve been away in Cheshire for the last week.
Firstly I must thank Tony for standing in for me the last 2 months while I was away on holiday. This retirement lark is quite demanding.
41 players gathered at Nizels Golf Club ready to do battle for the magnificent prizes on offer. This comprised 37 members and 4 guests.
The day started with a generous bacon roll and coffee or tea served from 9am with the first tee time being 10am.
Nizels is a demanding 18 hole championship course set in picturesque mature Kentish parkland. A bit different from last year where much of the course resembled a building site with ongoing improvement works. The greens were exceptionally good and quick. I for one was finding it difficult to judge the pace of the greens.
The standard of play was extremely good despite many of the holes having well placed water hazards and tight fairways. The average score being 33 with the top 15 players scoring 35 and above.
Chris Lewis had a good day as he collected a trophy for winning the MAGS abroad trophy in Turkey, the Division 1 winners mug with a score of 39 points and a nearest the pin prize. Well done Chris.
The Division 2 winner and overall winner was Darren Parker with a score of 42. The Division 3 winner was Kevin Jacobs with a score of 40.
The nearest the pin on the par 3 holes were Luke Moore on the 5th, Adrian Harvanko Jarvis on the 8th, Chris Lewis on the 11th, Paul Damper on the 14th and Tony Jacobs on the 16th. The nearest the pin in 3 on the par 5 winner was Barry England. The best guest prize went to Steve Liam with a score of 40. Well done to all of you.
Some of you may find your scores have changed from those you recorded. This was due to a cock up on the handicap front. Hopefully this has been rectified for next month.
I look forward to seeing you all and your partners at the Weald of Kent Golf Club for Captains Day. The format changes slightly with a later start time and an evening meal.
