Captain's Match Report
Lullingstone Park Golf Course is set in the rolling countryside just South of Swanley. As I was making my way through the winding country roads into Lullingstone Park guided by my SatNav which occasionally decided to do its own thing I wondered how warm it would get. The day was forecast to be a hot one and boy was it. Being prudent I’d packed plenty of factor 30 sun block and frozen water so that it would stay colder longer. After a meet and greet and a Bacon bap and with Captain Bob Crouch being away on holiday it was time for me to step up.Things didn’t start too well with me welcoming ladies and gentlemen followed by a retort from all and sundry “what ladies” there were none present ! What has happened to our lady members??
With the formal bit out of the way it was time for the 27 members present to tee off. I was in the first group with brother Kevin, Pete Tweddell and Alan Smithers, thank you for your company, really enjoyed it.
Once on the course it was increasingly hot all the way round with the occasional relief of a stiff breeze. The vistas through the valleys were a sight to behold and from one view point Pete commented on the grass in the distance rolling through the fields like waves on the sea, it really was a sight to see. The course itself was in good order with lots of slopes which if you didn’t get your shots just right your ball would be seen disappearing into the undergrowth (which wasn’t always the most friendly to get out of). Likewise in general I struggled with the pace of the greens tending to under-hit my putts!!
Nobody succumbed to the heat although a few were struggling by the end!! Bearing in mind the heat there was still some very good golf played. The average score was 30pts and the top 15 players were 31pts or above.
Division 2 winner was Dave Verga with a score of 34pts.
Division 1 winner was Paul Reynolds 11 with a score of 38pts who so narrowly lost out on the overall prize on count back to:-
Division 3 winner & overall winner Geoff Mills also with a score of 38pts.

Derek, I owe you an apology, I had bags and bits and pieces which I was not familiar with. In amongst them was a glass trophy with your name on which I’ll make sure you receive next meeting (Ironically my name was on it from last year although I never ever got to see it!!) So I’ll treasure it for a few weeks. The Mags society is an amazingly friendly society and with this in mind your captain Bob Crouch (who will be back will from his hols) will welcome you all with a friendly smile and greet at Dale Hill.
