Captain's Match Report

THIS WAS A PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT ARMISTICE CUP DAY, AS THIS YEAR IT WAS ACTIALLY BEING HELD ON ARMISTICE DAY AND AS SUCH A COUPLE OF SPECIAL CHANGES WERE MADE TO THE NORMAL ORDER OF THINGS.

FIRSTLY I MADE A POINT OF REMINDING EVERYONE OF THE IMPORTANCE AND RELEVENCE OF THE DAY AND ALSO TO REMEMBER TO STOP AND THINK AT 11 O CLOCK BY GETTING ONE RESPONSIBLE ADULT AMONGST EACH GROUP TO ACT AS TIME KEPER AND PAUSE AT THE ALLOTED HOUR FOR A MINUTES SILENCE.

I UNDERSTAND MOST GROUPS MANAGED THIS AND EVERYONE DID STOP ALBEIT NOT QUITE AT 11 FOR SOME WHO FIND WATCHES A BIT TRICKY.

IN ADDITIONAL AND PURELY AS A BIT OF FUNDRAISING FUN I SUGGESTED ANYONE WHO DIDN’T AMASS 11 POINTS BY THE 11TH HOLE OUGHT TO FEEL OBLIGED TO MAKE A DONATION TO THE POPPY TIN.

NOT FOR ONE MOMENT DID I IMAGINE THAT MAY APPLY TO ME!

I DON’T QUITE UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT DAY I AM GOING BACK AGAIN THIS WEEK TO ENSURE IT WAS AN ANOMOLY (AS BEFITS A CASUAL SWINGER SUCH AS MYSELF) BUT MY DAY NEVER QUITE MANAGED TO GEL INTO WHAT MUGHT BE CONSIDERED GOLF. UNUSUALLY FOR ME THE PUTTING FAIRY WAS ON MY SHOULDER AND THIS IS USUALLY THE WEAKEST PART OF MY GENERALLY AVERAGE GAME, HOWEVER I SOON REALISED SHE WAS ONLY THERE AS HOLIDAY COVER FOR THE DRIVING FAIRY WHO WAS CLEARLY AWAY AND THE SHORT GAME FAIRY WAS ONLY WORKING PART TIME. THUS BY THE 11TH I ONLY HAD 10 POINTS AND SCORED ANOTHER ONE ON THAT HOLE, BUT PUT MY SHAME FINE IN ANYWAY.

IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD PLAYED HURRICAINE AND BEING NO FAN WHATSOEVER OF SPITFIRE I WASN’T PARTICULARLY LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

I THOUGHT THE COURSE WAS REALLY LOVELY THOUGH, I UNDRSTAND THERE HAS RECENTLY BEEN SOME SWAPPING ABOUT OF LAND AND COURSE DESIGN AND I IMAGINE CHANGING ONE OF THE PAR THREES FOR A PAR FIVE WOULD MAKE THE WHOLE COURSE SEEM MORE STANDARD BUT IT WAS CERTAINLY WELL KEPT THE GREENS WERE LOOKED AFTER AND THE WHOLE COURSE PLAYED WELL EVEN THE LESSER SEEN PARTS I FREQUENTED.

IT WAS OBVIOUSLY JUST AN ABERRATION AS THERE WAS SOME RATHER GOOD SHOOTING THAT DAY EVEN IN THE FIRST PROPERLY COLD MAGS DAY SINCE I TOOK OVER AS CAPTAIN IN THE SPRING.

WE WERE AGAIN TYPICALLY BLESSED WITH THE WEATHER AS THE DAYS LEADING UP TO OUR MEETING HAD BEEN AWFUL AND I FEARED THE WORSE BUT WE WERE MET BY SUNSHINE AND DRY WEATHER

BECAUSE OF THE PLETHORA OF PAR THREES THERE WERE MANY WINNERS THIS TIME

ON THE 2ND IT WAS G GOVE (GOOD SHOOTING PARTNER)

THE 4TH P SELF

THE 8TH M PARSONS

IN 3 ON THE 12TH PAR FIVE BILL BEVEN

AND M PARSONS AGAIN ON THE 13TH WHO NARROWLY BEAT P DAMPER BUT HAVING WON A PRIZE ALREADY RELINQUISHED THE GLORY TO HIS COMRADE

14TH SAW D REED SHINE LIKE A BEACON AND

THE 17TH R COWARD TOOK THE GLORY

THE WINNER OF DIVISION ONE AND WINNER OF THE ARMISTICE CUP WAS TREVOR WOODS WITH A VERY IMPRESSIVE 35 POINTS

DIVISION TWO WINNER WITH 32 POINTS DAVE VERGA WELL DONE DAVE DIVISION ONE ON ITS WAY IM SURE

DIVISION THREE WINNER IAN BUTLER BEATING DAVE CATCHPOLE ON COUNTBACK

THOSE OF US WHO WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO SUPPLIMENT THE POPPY FUND MYSELF MILLS DAMPER AND PENDLETON THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

I WILL BE AWAY FOR THE NEXT MAGS MEETING WHICH CELEBRATES THE WINTER FESTIVAL AND I HAVE PROVIDED SOME PORT AND BRANDY TO TRY AND KEEP OUT THE COLD FOR YOU ALL.

I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO REMIND YOU THERE IS ALSO A SECRET SANTA SO BRING ALONG A WRAPPED GIFT VALUE CIRCA A TENNER

HAVE A BRILLIANT CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR AND I SHALL SEE YOU IN 2017, LOVE TO YOU AND YOURS ENJOY THE REST IF THERE IS ONE FOR YOU AT CHRISTMAS AND MAKE SURE YOU WEAR THOSE LOVELY CHRISTMAS JUMPERS FOR THE JANUARY MMETING WHICH I HOPE WILL BE ON SUBJECT TO THE WEATHER.
