2013/14 April 19th Round 1:
Surrey National Golf Club - The St. Georges Trophy

The first round of the 2013/14 season kicks off at the Surrey National Golf Course formally known as the 'Happy Valley'! This course has at least four very difficult par 4's not to mention the 3rd par 3 which carries 150 yards over the lake. The course is always kept in good condition and is a good test for all golfers. Let’s see if any of you can reach the green in two on the 18th.

Captain's Match Report

33 Playing.

Hello Golfers,
After tackling the testing traffic to this equally testing venue, we were treated to, what I thought, was a very good cooked breakfast which set us up for the Course ahead. For a change the weather held and although a bit cold at times made for good golfing conditions with the course being reasonably dry, except for the obvious WET BITS which I understand even our resident Pro, Steve, fell foul of at least once. The greens were in good order for the time of year but the Bunkers were not great, with quite a few of them out of action, (personally I wish they had all been out of action as I seemed to be in one every other hole, along with Dave Gentle jnr. who took the new sport of bunker tourettes to a whole new level)....Very entertaining, thanks Dave.
A special mention for Paul Damper who is so considerate to other Golfers that even when he sends a stray ball into the car park, he makes sure it's his own car that he hits. Nice one Paul.

There were three nearest the pins on the 3rd,7th & 13th, with Vice Captain Peter being beaten to the prize by Gary Koster on the 3rd, the 7th was won by Gary Kisby and Peter Gray was apparently robbed by Roy Goodhew on the 13th.
Nearest the Pin in 3 was the 14th hole with Mick Corcoran being the outright claimant of this prize, well done Mick.
The majority of those who took part had scores 20-30 points but with a very fine score of 41, beating Paul Keenor on count-back, was Kev Warncken, commiserations Paul but congratulations Kev.

Thanks to Luke and Mark who assisted me with the score cards and my thanks to all those who attended the AGM after the meal, and a special mention of thanks to Vice captain Peter Tweddell for the effort he has put in with the new website, excellent work Pete. Also thanks to Peter Gray for being the 1st person to pay and book for the Captains Day in September! The next Venue is Walmer & Kingsdown 17th May, I look forward to seeing you there.
Note for diary... Thursday 25th July has been booked for fun day at leeds castle, details to follow.
